Dear Licensed Healthcare Professional (PT/PTA, MT, OT, ATC or DC):

There are millions of people and future patients participating in barbell movements - and a large majority of them are going experience some kind of pain. This is what they are telling me. How many of them apply to you?

  • You're hearing "I'm not going to stop lifting" more times that you would like
  • Patients often tell you they will "go light" - but they don't
  • Patients ask regularly ask you "how do I continue weightlifting without increasing my pain?" - but you don't know how what to say in response
  • You have a nagging feeling that while your evaluation skills have now improved - you don't have the same skills when it comes to treatment progressions specific to barbell athletes
  • Patients are telling you "I've already tried physical therapy, massage, and chiropractic care" - and you don't feel confident showing them how you are different from previous providers

Now, if some or all of these apply to you, you're not alone. Most clinicians find it challenging to work with barbell athletes.

It is one thing to rehab a shoulder, back or knee - but if you don't have an understanding of how all these joints together in barbell movement, then it is difficult to have successful outcomes.

Would you agree?

But here's the thing:

Managing "Barbell Athletes" Is Not That Difficult - If You Understand The Mechanics And Lifting Progressions

So, Who is "Management of the Barbell Athlete" Course for?

If you want to continue working with patients who are active, this course is essential for you because you are likely going to encounter barbell athletes and your outcomes are going to be directly related to your understanding of their sport.

The "Management of the Barbell Athlete" course takes place live VIRTUAL via Zoom. Here's who should attend:

  • You are frustrated when your patients tell you they are going to "back off" - but they don't
  • You work in a setting where you see a lot of barbell athletes - and you're running into more complex issues from patients...and you want to know how to how to become a leading specialist
  • You are not confident enough to analyze mechanics of a barbell athlete - and if you were, your outcomes would be better
  • You are confident enough to analyze barbell mechanics - you just lack the SKILLS and strategy to do it right...and progess them back to exercising pain free (big difference)
  • You know you are a good clinician - but you are not getting the results you want with the barbell athlete population
  • You are new to working with barbell athletes - and you want to be proactive in achieving better outcomes
  • You're tired of looking at YouTube videos to find the solutions for your patients or clients

We Are Going To Give You The Tools At The "Management of the Barbell Athlete" 2-Day Live VIRTUAL Course

I am going to show you step-by-step the things you NEED to be evaluating on the initial visit and how to systematically progress your patients back to the barbell after injury. By the end of our two days together, you'll have the confidence to say to your patients, "you don't have to rest - I'll help you keep exercising while we rehab your injury."

Finally, we will make sure you are able to:

  • Evaluate and analyze traditional biomechanical positioning of the deadlift, squat variations, snatch, and clean and jerk.
  • Demonstrate movement competency in the performance of deadlifts, squat variations, and positioning for the snatch and clean and jerk.
  • Provide at least three modifications for the deadlift, squat variations, snatch, and clean and jerk for individuals experiencing pain (using case study examples).
  • Provide three manual therapy options based on impairments seen in the biomechanical analysis of the deadlift, squat, snatch, and clean and jerk.
  • Develop appropriately-dosed barbell-specific corrective exercise programs based on barbell lift analysis and impairments found in a physical screen.

How I Was Handpicked as the "Best Physical Therapist" in Chula Vista 4 Years in a Row!

So here's my story:

Eight years ago I was working for the United States Olympic Committee, treating the best athletes in the world. As I managed athletes who were injured, I quickly realized they needed to continue training and maintaining a high fitness level...despite their injury. At first I was applying different approaches and I didn't have structure.

This led me to work closely with strength and conditioning coaches to keep athletes healthy and moving ALL YEAR long.

Once I learned the fundamentals and developed a SYSTEM, I began programming injury prevention programs in the off-season...which led to decreased injuries and more resilient athletes.

Soon after, I consulted with professional football and tennis players and I quickly realized they are ALWAYS hurt. My role was to keep them moving. I quickly applied the systems I previously used with Olympic athetes.

I knew I was onto something.

Once I opened Sports Performance Physical Therapy, I applied these same principles and systems to local CrossFit, powerlifting and weightlifting communities...

Low and behold, patients were getting significantly better. I was surprised to find out that principles that worked for professional athletes worked for my local community.

It worked! The one thing that really made a difference was a using a systematic approach to evaluating and progressing injuries.

Before I knew it, my treatment systems were becoming so effective that I was reconized as the "best physical therapist" in Chula Vista over the last 4 years.

I want to share the clinical pearls and strategies I have learned over the last decade working with professional athletes because I believe TOGETHER we can keep more patients exercising and away from injury.

If you're still sitting on the fence about attending, here's what a few barbell athletes have to say about their results of the material being presented at the course.

Management of the barbell athlete

When facing an injury, it’s difficult to know the right path to follow. My surgeon referred me to Dr. Chris Garcia and I am so happy he did. As a full time CrossFit athlete I am always fighting to maximize my potential. Although I know that injury is a part of sport, I was devastated when I tore my bicep tendon during off-season training for the CrossFit Games. Chris was able to guide my post surgical rehab with unmatched knowledge and a personal touch. He understood my goals and was able to bridge the gap from traditional clinical exercises to functional CrossFit training. His expertise put my mind at ease. His detailed planning gave me a road map to recovery. His manual therapy, smart progression of exercises and positive encouragement kept me progressing every week and ahead of schedule! He was always willing troubleshoot and work with me on how I could train around the injury. I would recommend Chris wholeheartedly to any athlete in need of physical therapy. He is an extremely valuable resource for an athlete to have and I am very grateful that I am under his care!

-Christy (Phillips) Adkins, 7-time Reebok CrossFit Games Athlete

Exceptional. I’ve tried chiropractor and regular massage and while helpful none of the above understood the needs of an athlete. When your massage therapist or chiro don’t know what an overhead squat or muscleup are, it is difficult for them to understand the stimulus and wear and tear on your body. Doctor Chris immediately came off to me as understanding of ATHLETES and the pressures/stimulus their body is subject to. Because of this he was able to address my injury as well as clean up some of my movement patterns. I’ve hit multiple lifetime PR’s only 2 weeks outside of an injury that had me operating at 80% or less on all my strength work. The week following my appointment my pain subsided and I hit within 95%, the second week after I was PR’ing. I am a Crossfit athlete/coach and Olympic weightlifter. I recommend a friend who is an acrobat and he performed stellar work on her. The next day she was raving about how effective he was.

-Scott, Olympic Weightlifter & CrossFit Coach

I’m a 46 year old dentist who has trained vigorously over the years. I have played multiple sports and have seen many doctors and therapists. I met Chris Garcia when I was having mobility issues with my shoulder and needed to prep for a competition. I have to say that I was very pleased with care I received. Chris is highly educated and trained. He was very thorough and took the time to understand my ailments (believe me there are a lot). He was meticulous and systematic while treating me. There is no doubt that when he is working an area that he knows exactly what he is doing. There is an art as well as a science to his work and he has mastered them both.

-Nick, Olympic Weightlifter
