PT Clinic Director Wanted!

Just before you rush to apply for the full-time Clinic Director position, take a look at the list below and ask yourself honestly if any of these describes your situation right now:

  • Are you an experienced clinician who's ready to lead — but stuck in a clinic that treats leadership as an afterthought?
  • Tired of being the unofficial mentor for your team without the title, the time, or the authority to actually shape clinical care?
  • Are you watching talented younger PTs burn out around you because there's no structured mentorship — and you wish you could do something about it?
  • Do you wish you had a leadership role where you still got to treat clients — instead of being buried in admin, productivity reports, and insurance fights?
  • Are you a culture-builder who knows that great clinical outcomes start with a great team — and you want to own building that team?
  • Are you ready to step into a leadership role at a thriving, cash-pay, multidisciplinary practice where the owners actually want you to take ownership?

If you found yourself saying YES to one or more of those questions, we might JUST be the position you're looking for...

About Sports Performance - Our Story

  • Sports Performance was founded in 2014, with a mission to keep people healthy, active and fit all year-round without having to take time off of exercising due to injuries. We specialize in helping people in San Diego relieve pain, prevent injury and improve performance so they can live healthy and active lives.
  • Sports Performance is a thriving and rapidly growing health and wellness facility located in Chula Vista, California, offering physical therapy, massage therapy, performance training and recovery services. We are not your typical physical therapy or health care office. We are a fun and happy team who works together to provide a world-class experience to every client that walks through our door. Our focus is on building a place that feels like a real community - that both clients and team members are excited to be a part of. We want our clients to keep coming back, and we want them to tell their friends and family about us. We consider our clients "family" and do everything we can to make them feel that way whenever they visit or interact with us.
  • Sports Performance is about living your best life, for our clients and ourselves. It is very important to us to provide our staff with a lifestyle they are happy to have. One in which they don’t feel overworked, drowning in paperwork, or rushed for treatment time with their clients so they can simply focus on results.
  • We are also completely cash-based and do not contract with any insurance companies. This means a lot of things for you when it comes to how you get to work with our clients. That means our Clinical Director gets to focus on what actually drives clinical excellence — people, mentorship, and outcomes — not authorizations and denials.
  • We are at the stage where we need a true clinical leader. A Clinical Director who can take ownership of our clinical team, our quality of care, and the development of every clinician under their wing — so the practice can grow without ever compromising the experience we deliver.
  • Life is short. We don't want the person leading our clinical team to settle for a job that doesn't inspire them. We want a leader who's lit up by the chance to build something special with us.

What is so unique about this position? You get to...

  • Lead a multidisciplinary clinical team of PTs, massage therapists, and performance specialists — and have a real seat at the table shaping how the practice grows.
  • Stay clinical. This is a player-coach role. You'll still see your own caseload so you keep your hands and your edge — while leading, mentoring, and building.
  • Own clinical quality. Set the standard for evaluations, plans of care, documentation, and the client experience — without insurance dictating any of it.
  • Build the bench. Run weekly mentorship and case-review sessions. Be the person who takes a new grad and develops them into a world-class therapist.
  • Drive outcomes, not productivity quotas. We don't measure success by visits-per-hour. We measure it by clients getting better, staying with us, and referring friends.
  • Hire and onboard with the owners. Help us choose the right people, get them ramped, and keep our culture intact as we grow.
  • Be respected as a leader. No more being the unofficial mentor with no authority. You'll be on the leadership team alongside the owners with real influence on the direction of the company.
  • Have a career path. This role is built to grow with the company — into a Director of Clinical Operations role as we expand.

Who should apply for this job:

  • Someone who is truly passionate about physical therapy and wants to make a real transformation in people's lives.
  • Someone who is looking to work in an environment that is NOT a traditional outpatient clinic - and that is fun and feels like a family.
  • Someone who likes the idea of being able to grow and advance within a company. You're getting in on the ground floor of an innovative and rapidly growing company - where your ideas and contributions are welcome and valued.
  • Someone who wants a small clinic feel but operates with big business ideas! This job comes with benefits and plenty of opportunity for continuing education - just without the burn-out and corporate red-tape.
  • Someone who is flexible and open to change as our practice continues to grow and evolve.
  • A senior PT (typically 5+ years of outpatient experience) who has been quietly leading on every team they've been on — and is ready to make it official.
  • Someone who is genuinely energized by developing other clinicians, not just treating clients.
  • Someone who wants to work in an environment that is NOT a traditional outpatient clinic — a fun, family-feel practice where leadership actually means something.
  • Someone with strong clinical skills AND emotional intelligence — you can read a team, give hard feedback kindly, and earn trust quickly.
  • Someone who wants the autonomy to shape clinical care — and the accountability that comes with it.
  • Someone who is comfortable with hard conversations: with clinicians who aren't hitting standards, with clients about plans of care, with vendors, and with the owners.
  • Someone who has a growth mindset. You actively read, take CEUs, listen to podcasts, attend conferences — and want a team around them that does the same.
  • Someone who can blend sports physical therapy, injury prevention, and performance training. Familiarity with MSI, SFMA, FMS, USAW, and NSCA frameworks is a strong plus.

These are just a few reasons why this opportunity can be life-changing for the right person.

What we're looking for:

  • A full-time Clinical Director to lead our growing, hard-working, and family-like clinical team.
  • The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of outpatient PT experience, prior leadership or senior/lead therapist responsibilities, and a track record of mentoring junior clinicians.
  • Active California PT license (or eligible to obtain).
  • Advanced certifications (OCS, SCS, FAAOMPT, CSCS, etc.) strongly preferred.
  • Cash-pay practice experience is a plus, but not required if the candidate is the right cultural and clinical fit.
  • A leader who can have direct, kind, candid conversations — and who can hold a team accountable without burning trust.

Are you our next amazing Clinic Director?

If you think you are a perfect fit for our cash-based multidisciplinary practice and want to change lives with our highly skilled, high energy team, we need to hear from you today!

  • Be a team player AND a team builder.

  • Lead hiring of new clinical staff alongside the owners — sourcing, interviewing, practicals, and onboarding.
  • Develop and execute new-hire ramp plans, including 30/60/90-day milestones.
  • Performance-manage clinicians: regular 1:1s, scorecards, growth plans, and — when necessary — performance improvement plans.
  • Maintain your own clinical caseload at a high standard — including discovery visits and complex evaluations.
  • Drive team-level KPIs: utilization, discovery-to-paying-client conversion, visit average, retention, and reactivations.
  • Collaborate seamlessly with massage therapy and performance training to keep client care integrated.
  • Contribute to clinical content: in-services, blog posts, social media, workshops, and educational events.
  • Be on-camera comfortable — video is a big part of how we communicate with clients and the community.
  • Be coachable, open, and dedicated to your own personal and professional growth. The leader of our clinical team has to model the standard..

Whether you've held the Clinical Director title before or you've been the unofficial leader on every team you've joined — we welcome your application. You'll get extensive support and mentorship from Dr. Chris Garcia. Pursue personal and professional growth is one of our core values and we take it very seriously.
