SUCCESS STORIES

PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES

At Sports Performance, I got the top notch physical therapy to get me ready and stay prepared for my fight. Between fights it’s all about maintenance and optimal body function so I can focus on constant improvement on my discipline, movement, and intensity. Chris and staff have pride in their work, provide a safe comfortable environment in skill building, body confidence, and healing to stay top of the line. With a constant revolving door of elite athletes and knowledgeable trainers/therapists, walking in Sports Performance offers guaranteed progress and results.

-Cat Zingano, Professional Mixed Martial Arts Fighter

I initially came to Chris for personal training and assistance with my offseason program and thus far has been the most beneficial experience for my career! I came in expecting to be challenged through a workout and possibly gain size and strength, but that only scratches the surface of the assistance that Chris provides. From personalized strength and plyometric programs to nutrition to physical therapy, the knowledge that Chris has turns every session in to an opportunity to learn and grow. He helped me address my issues, achieve my goals and in just a few weeks, rehab from an injury that had been nagging me for 6 months prior. I am very thankful to have had Chris’ help and would recommend Sports Performance PT to anyone looking to get that extra push they need to seriously compete in their sport.

-Matt Ball, Professional Baseball Pitcher, Texas Rangers

When facing an injury, it’s difficult to know the right path to follow. My surgeon referred me to Dr. Chris Garcia and I am so happy he did. As a full time CrossFit athlete I am always fighting to maximize my potential. Although I know that injury is a part of sport, I was devastated when I tore my bicep tendon during off-season training for the CrossFit Games. Chris was able to guide my post surgical rehab with unmatched knowledge and a personal touch. He understood my goals and was able to bridge the gap from traditional clinical exercises to functional CrossFit training. His expertise put my mind at ease. His detailed planning gave me a road map to recovery. His manual therapy, smart progression of exercises and positive encouragement kept me progressing every week and ahead of schedule! He was available whenever I had questions or concerns. He was always willing troubleshoot and work with me on how I could train around the injury. I am now just 9 weeks post surgery but have full range of motion and strength that is improving every session. I feel strong and confident that I will continue to progress and will be able to compete for the 2016 CrossFit season. I would recommend Chris wholeheartedly to any athlete in need of physical therapy. He is an extremely valuable resource for an athlete to have and I am very grateful that I am under his care!

-Christy (Phillips) Adkins, 7-time Reebok CrossFit Games Athlete

July 9th, 2016 will be a day that changed my professional BMX life forever. In training for my final preparation for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games I suffered one of my hardest crashes of my career. After a bunch of medical tests I was diagnosed with a broken glenoid bone in my left shoulder, only 6 weeks away from the Olympics. I knew I needed the best in the business to help me get back on the bike ASAP. Being from a different country (Ecuador) and only spending 2 months in San Diego, I was clueless where to go. But man It is funny, my first google search lead me to Chris. I am religious and I do believe that our path was destined. By meeting Chris it was a true example of that. He had all the tools that I needed to get where we wanted. We set a goal and worked like it was the time of our lives. During this process not only did I meet one of the greatest sports doctors but a great friend. In three weeks of rehab and training, we achieved our goal and headed to Rio with all hopes intact. This will be an experience I will never forget! Cheers to Chris for being so passionate, devoted and such a hard worker!

-Alfredo Campo, Professional BMX Rider, 2016 Olympian

I first met Dr. Garcia in 2014 as I was preparing for the Roland Garros (“French Open”) and Wimbledon tennis tournaments. Facing a number of different injuries on various parts of the body, I was immediately impressed by his ability to assess and comfortably treat different types of injures. It became very clear that I was working with someone who loved what he was doing and loved the idea of continuing to grow his knowledge and capabilities. The combination of hands-on therapy with corrective exercise immediately resulted in improvement and ultimately 100% health in my body. Since our time together in 2014, I’ve been fortunate enough to work with Dr. Garcia on various occasions. I can honestly say that no matter what injury ever comes up in my career, Dr. Garcia will always be one of my first calls to get on the path back to good health. Most importantly, I felt the entirety of our time together I was working with an incredible person. His character, his professionalism, his love and passion for his family, were all things that I had the upmost respect for and I consider him a close friend on top of a colleague. I look forward to working with him again on any occasion possible.

-Ryan Harrison, Professional Tennis Player (former 43rd ATP world ranking), 2012 Olympian

I first met Dr. Garcia at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA when I came into the training room with a broken and degenerated ankle. Many therapists would have looked at my track record of injuries, and started encouraging me to begin thinking about retirement, many already had. Dr. Garcia was different. Instead of seeing pity in his eyes, instead there was determination. This determination led us on a 4 year journey of extreme highs and extreme lows, yet through it all that look I saw that first day never left his face. Dr. Garcia saw me through the first ever U.S. Bone Marrow and Placenta Cell procedure, which took me from a career ending injury to the finals of the 2012 Olympic Trials. Although we were just shy of making the team, we had done the impossible. His unyielding belief, positivity, and medical knowledge was absolutely what put me in that finals. And with his continued support I now head into the first season of my career as a healthy athlete. As a Physical Therapist Dr. Garcia is second to none, and even more importantly as a person he is as good as they come. The depth of my gratitude could never be expressed into words, nor my admiration for his talents and character. I consider myself one of the luckiest athletes on the planet to call Chris Garcia my physical therapist.

-Melinda (Owen) Withrow, 2-time Olympic Trials Finalist Pole Vault

I met Chris Garcia while I lived and trained as a javelin thrower at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California. I had always enjoyed working with him through minor injuries and had great success in doing so, but when I tore my ACL at the 2012 Olympic Trials, Chris blew me away. From the moment the doctor, Chris and I decided that I should compete in London anyway, he was full steam ahead in helping me through one of the most trying experiences of my life. Without Chris’s unrelenting-but-realistic encouragement, expertise in manual therapy, tough and focused rehab sessions, and willingness to research and attempt any taping method that might help me feel strong, I never could have set foot on the Olympic runway. Largely because of Chris, I learned how resilient I can be in the face of adversity, and his influence and sound advice have carried me through surgery and a very strong return to competition in the 2014 season. The meticulous way that Chris monitors your progress and sticks to his standards of health and wellness for you mean that you’ll emerge from injury better than you were before. The way he approaches each case with each individual in mind and melds that compassion with pure dedication to his craft is admirable. He is one of the hardest, smartest workers I’ve ever met. Highly recommend.

-Kara (Patterson) Winger, 2-time Olympian, 5-time U.S. National Champion, American Record Holder

I had the pleasure of meeting Chris Garcia while training at the Olympic Training Center with the Mens National Team. He had toured with the National Team a couple of times but where I really got to know him was when I had tore my ACL in Pre-Season Training late 2012. With the season being just around the corner and it also being a World Cup year I was assigned to Chris at the Training Center. Racing against time to get me ready to catch the back end of the season and maybe in contention to pus for a world cup birth, I knew it would be tough journey getting back to 100%. Chris hands on approach of physio therapy and expertise took over and soon enough I was ahead of schedule for my return to the Rugby field. With only 4 months gone, I was already back to 95% running and within the next 5 months I was practicing full go with the team and returned to my first ever tournament in 5 months and made the World Cup team in the summer of 2013. For this I am sure I hold the record for fastest return from an ACL injury at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista San Diego. All thanks to Chris and his hard work, belief and experience. I am truly grateful to Chris and always recommend him to my friends and teammates recovering from injury. I am proud to call him my friend and brother. Vinaka Chris!

–Andrew Durutalo, Professional Rugby Player, USA Sevens National Team Member

Easily one of the best physical therapists I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. As a sprinter, I’ve always had really tight hip flexors and limited flexibility in my hamstrings and calves, but Chris was able to zero in on those issues and create a program for me that really helped to open my legs up and give me more range of motion. Additionally he was able to help me strengthen my overall stability and balance which in turn made me a much better sprinter! His expertise was an extremely valued asset to team USA at the London 2012 games! I think I can speak for the rest of the team in saying I don’t think we could’ve made it through the rigors of competition without him! We definitely miss having him at the Olympic training center! An awesome trainer and therapist and an even better person! I highly recommend him.

-Rolland Slade, Professional Sprinter, Paralympic Track and Field Guide Runner

As a professional athlete, keeping your body healthy is very important. Upon the time of meeting Chris Garcia, I was battling an injury sustained in training. The injury was stagnated, not getting better, but not getting worse. Allowing me to train at about 75%. After my first appointment with Chris, I could tell I was in good hands. Within a few visits, the injury was fully healed and I was able to resume normal training. After each visit, I walk out of the clinic knowing I am healthy and my body is ready for intense training.  Chris is a genuinely amazing person with a knowledgeable background. I look forward to working with Chris into the future and having him apart of my team.

-Mike Arnold, Professional Pole Vaulter, NCAA All-American, 2016 Indoor World Championship Team Member

Chris at Sports Performance Physical Therapy was an absolute delight to work with. His strengths lie not only in his ability to work with you physically, but mentally as well, which is very important for athletes. With 10 weeks to recover from severe knee bruising and prepare for the Worlds, I was anxious, angry, and agitated before I first saw him. Chris helped me to put things into perspective mentally, and focus on the things that I can control. Since I started working with Chris, my recovery felt faster, more productive, and I was simply happier overall. Chris’ care was instrumental to successful (and short) recovery and I can’t thank him enough for his valuable support.

-Kai Sakakibara, Professional BMX Rider, 2017 Australian National Champion, Olympic Hopeful

Chris was instrumental in my lead up to making the 2012 Olympic team. He helped me rehab and strengthen a broken hand, surgical UCL repair, separated AC joint and various soft tissue injuries during the time I worked with him. Chris provided superior manual therapy to rehabilitate my injuries as well as focus on strengthening exercises and proper biomechanics to prevent future injury and improve my performance. The best part about Chris is his genuine charisma and enthusiasm which made therapy both fun and productive for me. I highly recommend any athletes looking to work through injuries or improve their mechanics for sport to seek out Chris at Sports Performance Physical therapy, he’s got the goods!

-Arielle (Martin) Verhaaren, 2012 Olympic Qualifier, Pan American Games Silver medalist, BMX Supercross World Cup Champion

I’m in my final weeks of preparation for the Olympic Trials gunning for a spot on my second Olympic Team and Sports Performance physical therapy is playing a vital role in preparing my body to perform at it’s peak. SP continually goes above and beyond my expectations. Chris provides top notch care, a critical eye, HUGE attention to detail, continual follow-up and thorough appointment sessions. Every second of time with Sports Performance is time well spent. If there is a way to fast track injury recovery, this is it. Chris is at the top of my list when it comes to physical therapy care.

-Amanda Smock, 3-time USA Outdoor and 3-time USA Indoor Triple Jump Champion, Olympic and World Championship team member

Dr. Chris Garcia is an extremely talented Physical Therapist. Absolutely one of the best.  I have had the pleasure of working with Chris at a high athletic level, an Olympic level, but in longevity with my sport, staying on top of small ailments is key to staying injury free and to keep pursuing by goals 100%.  Its incredible the professionalism but fun and excitement that Chris brings and his skills which seem to have no boundaries!  Highest recommendation to anyone who is pre or post surgery to those who have active lifestyle goals and want to be preventative with injuries.  For me, I want another Olympics! Thanks Chris!!

-April Steiner Bennett, 3-time NCAA Pole Vault All American, 2008 Olympian and Fear Factor Winner

Big thank you to Chris! He is passionate about getting your body moving and back to health. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Chris on multiple occasions. He’s helped me get back from an incredibly difficult knee surgery. He’s an incredible gifted therapist and an even better person!

-Ryan Young, Professional Javelin Thrower, United States Track and Field Olympic Hopeful

As an athlete, I can be very protective of my body. This does not always mean I am nice to it.  From the minute I explained to Chris my event, the hammer throw, he took it upon himself to watch me throw. Not only to see the hammer throw live but to understand the stresses that are put on my body. He devised a PT protocol to keep my stressed areas, back and knees, healthy and happy. With weekly PT maintenance sessions at the Olympus Training Center and his PT protocol, my body was happy and healthy for many years. As of late, my age has caught up to me and my little tweaks that I use to be able to push through, need a little more attention. During my first session back with Chris, he explained to me why my tweaks were happening and why it is important to stay on top of them. From the many years of working with Chris at the Olympic Training Center, I know that I will leave each session confident that my body is ready for the next workout, tweak-free. With Chris’s expertise and knowledge of my body movement, I look forward to finishing my career as an elite hammer throwers on a high and healthy note.

-Britney Henry, Professional Hammer Thrower, 3-Time All American, United States Track and Field Olympic Hopeful

Chris Garcia is amazing! I first started working with him during the summer of 2013 after I bone bruised my knee twice in one season. He was my rehab rock for the next three months. His reliability and dedication made him one of the best trainers I have ever worked with. It was a tough summer of rehab but with his help I was able to get back on my feet and accomplish my dream of going to the Olympics. Thanks big Chris!

-Chas Guldemond, Professional Snowboarder and 2014 Winter Olympian

I worked with Chris the years leading up to my second Olympics.  He is great at understanding the biomechanics of various team and individual sports and the injuries these athletes incur.  Chris is even better at treating these contact and overuse injuries!!  I loved working with Chris because he genuinely cared for all of his athletes and did everything to get us back up and running.  I am so grateful that he helped me with my rib injury a year before the Olympics, I was able to compete and bring home the gold!

-Susan Francia, 2-time Olympic Gold Medalist, 5-Time World Champion, 2010 US Rowing Athlete of the Year

I greatly benefitted from Chris Garcia’s services during my time at the US Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista.  After 5 years in a desk job, I attempted a comeback to the US National Rowing Team.  In early 2011, I sustained a significant back injury that left me unable to move without pain.  Chris’s developed a great program for rehabilitation, maintenance, and future monitoring of my injury.  His tailored program enabled me to not only regain full pain free mobility, but also to return to elite rowing training.  While I was eventually fell short in selection for a seat on the 2012 team, I would not have been able to even pursue my dream if not for Chris.

-Michael Blomquist, US National Rowing Team, 2005 World Champion

Before I met Chris, I was hopelessly struggling with an ACL injury. He has helped me tremendously and with only a couple of sessions I have seen a tremendous improvement in my mobility, balance and strength. I’m very grateful to have the opportunity to work with someone as informative & knowledgable as him. Cheers to getting my life back on track!

-Paulina Granados, Professional MMA Fighter

Chris Garcia is an excellent PT, to say the least. I had the opportunity to work with Chris at the OTC in Chula Vista, CA. Chris helped me to keep my body functioning properly in preparation for competition. He also took the time to educate me on specific injury care and prevention. Chris is very personable and genuinely cares about my well being.

-Stevo VanderWerp, Pro Beach Volleyball Player

I came in to see Chris after I tweaked my back badly during a lifting session. I thought it was going to be a long recovery process. My spine was visibly crooked and I was hardly able to walk. I had no idea what it could be. But as soon as I walked in Chris was able to identify what the problem was immediately and give me an exact time line to my recovery. He worked with me to come up with a rehab program that would get me healthy again. I was back to full health a lot faster than I thought was possible. Afterwards he gave me another program to follow to make sure that I wouldn’t come back in with another similar injury. He was always upbeat and positive when I came in to see him and made me feel like I was always going to get better in no time (which I did). I can’t thank Chris enough for getting me healthy and making sure I stay that way.

-Jared Garcia, Professional BMX Athlete, USA BMX Olympic Hopeful

I’ve been to a few other PT’s and by far Chris is my favorite. He conducts his visits with the utmost professionalism, he takes time to explain details with you while working out your kinks. His passion for what he does certainly shows through his work. Thanks to Chris’ knowledge and help, I am learning how to better care for myself physically as an athlete. If you want to be able to keep training while rehabbing do your body a favor and go see Chris!

-Guadalupe A., CrossFit Athlete and Coach

During a strong man competition after the first event my partner and I had a couple of issues and felt like it would be bad to continue. Chris was present and worked with us a bit. After the short session it felt as if I was a new man. Thanks to him we were able to continue and win 1st place. Very please with his services and plan on making him part of my health & exercise routine.

-Jesse S., CrossFit Athlete

Chris has a lot of experience working with all types of athletes. From the weekend warrior to professional and olympic athletes, Chris will make you feel comfortable during a visit by explaining what he’s working on and why he’s working on it. He can easily find your problem and give you immediate relief. You won’t regret seeing Chris!

-Daniel R., CrossFit Athlete and Coach

I’ve been working out hard for quite some time now and I’m in love with Crossfit and weightlifting. I had problems with my lower back, ankle and shoulder while doing deadlifts, cleans and squats and had no clue why. I thought I was just complaining too much, so I ignored it for a while until I started upping my weight a bit and the pain increased and the recovery got slower. It was very depressing for me. While talking to a friend about my problems, he referred me to Chris. I was always against the idea of spending money in a physiotherapist, but I decided to give it a shot. I met with Chris last week and he pointed out what my weaknesses were and why I was having all of that pain. Then he went on to fixing and BAM! With only one session, ONE session, I’ve already seen GREAT results. After meeting with him and doing the exercises that he suggested me to do I upped my deadlift weight by 20 pounds in LESS than a week! With amazing form. My dumbbell bench presses are stronger, and upped from weak form @ 40 lb to 45 lb with perfect form! I’m very pleased, very happy about this. I feel stronger and more flexible. I can’t say it enough: Chris, you’re AMAZING, bro!

–Brunna K., CrossFit Athlete and Weightlifter

I’m a 46 year old dentist who has trained vigorously over the years.  I have played multiple sports and have seen many doctors and therapists.  I met Chris Garcia when I was having mobility issues with my shoulder and needed to prep for a competition.  I have to say that I was very pleased with care I received.  Chris is highly educated and trained.  He was very thorough and took the time to understand my ailments (believe me there are a lot).  He was meticulous and systematic while treating me.  There is no doubt that when he is working an area that he knows exactly what he is doing.  There is an art as well as a science to his work and he has mastered them both.  I appreciated his e-mail follow ups and custom tailored exercises he sent me in between sessions.  I will continue to be a client and strongly recommend him to anybody needing help.

–Nick A., Olympic Weightlifter

A year after ACL surgery I was still having knee pain and soreness after workouts. When I met with Chris he assessed what I was able to do, pinpointed what I needed to work on and made a custom plan to get me back on track. A little over a month and I can definitely feel the improvement in stability, strength and overall confidence when playing soccer! Chris is very knowledgeable, professional, overall nice guy and  made sure to explain everything so that I walked out without any questions. He seemed as interest in getting me back on the field as I was. Definitely recommended!

–Mauricio G., Recreational Soccer Player

I have struggled with plantar fasciitis and associated tendonosis in my left foot for several years after injury in 2010.  This is a very long time for healing of this kind of injury.  I’ve worked with several podiatrists and therapists; some of whom have been significantly disappointing and some very helpful.  I saw Chris for three sessions recently while visiting family in the San Diego area, and the results were amazing.  He diagnosed lack of mobility in my sub-talar heel joint related to lack of eversion in my walking motion, which causes improper stress in my arch when walking.  Some of this had been diagnosed before, but Chris went right to the heart of the matter and, most importantly, provided me a simple exercise and a simple change in my foot orthotics that led to HUGE improvement right away.  He followed up by advising my therapist where I live on his diagnosis and additional strengthening therapies he suggests, and she has incorporated these directly into our work — with continued strong movement forward.  I can now walk every day and be continuously on my feet sometimes for lengths of time, which was impossible even a couple of months ago!  I could not be more grateful.

–Eugene W., Recreational Hiker

Went in for a really bad back and left feeling great and learned soooo much about what has been causing these problems. This was totally worth it and can’t wait to get back in the gym. I’ve dealt with back issues forever and Chris really took the time to learn what was wrong and educate me on how I can make this doesn’t stay an issue.

–Carlyn S., CrossFit Athlete & Olympic Weightlifter

I came to Chris with a nerve issue in my right arm. He made me feel at ease, and with his undivided attention he wanted to know the full story of what had happened and exactly what I was feeling before he got started with his treatment. I had an understating of the treatment as he let me know what he was going to do, and explained to me how that treatment would help in my healing process. His knowledge, training, and expertise at what he does made me feel very comfortable knowing I was in excellent  hands. Chris is a great guy, he’s passionate about what he does and he genuinely cared about how I was doing and getting me back to 100%. I would recommend Chris to anyone. Thank you, Chris….you’re the best!

–Dawn S., Recreational Walker

Just had my first session today and I am already feeling better! Chris is really informative and makes you feel really comfortable. Gave me specific homework so I can get back to training asap! I definitely suggest if anyone needs a PT to try him out!

–Leanna J., CrossFit Athlete

Chris really cares about you getting better. He makes you understand the source/reason of your injuries, help getting better and preventing them.

–Erick A., CrossFit Athlete

Injured my wrist over 6 wks ago olympic weightlifting and was having serious trouble getting it to heal. I was getting desperate not being able to use my hand let alone lift weights. Urgent care was obviously no help so thankfully I was recommended to Chris by my coach and he was a blessing! Gave me a examination, clearly explained to me what was going on with my wrist, gave me a treatment , and told me what I could do to do to get it better! Gave me hope and guidelines to get back to my sport! So thankful for his expertise…Definitely will continue to see Chris!

–Brittany S., Olympic Weightlifting Athlete

Unbelievable results in just a single session. Has you walking out a new person. Detailed reports of problem area, what’s causing it, how to fix, also corrective exercises given to prevent from happening again. Very quick response time and was able to quickly get an appointment! this is a must for anyone looking to compete in shows or at power lifting meets to reach your full potential!

–Charlie I., Bodybuilding Athlete

Dr. Chris is awesome. The man fixed my shin splints in less than a month (Shin splints are by no means, easy to fix). I’ve been to many docs out there, but Dr. Chris is my last and final stop to end all my problems. I heard about him through a few Olympic Athletes that I train with at the Olympic training center, and one day I decided to give him a shot. He has done more than just fix my shin splints, he managed to help me fix my shoulder and knee in the midst of my treatment without skipping a beat. I can’t thank him enough for helping me out of my depression. From not being able to run as much as I need to, to being able to run regularly again so that I can achieve my dream. Dr. Chris cares and doesn’t just treat you, he educates you, so you can help yourself for the long run.

–Jason M., CrossFit Coach and Athlete

I went to see Chris for constant back pain, tight hips, and a painful right elbow. Chris was very attentive and did an extensive background and discussed my lengthy medical history with me to build a better rapport. Right off the bat I felt like I was in good hands. Chris was very detailed on what was wrong, what was causing it, and how we were going to work on it. When Chris was preforming cupping and scrapping he informed me what he was doing, which a lot of doctors start procedures without giving enough detail about what they are doing. I would recommend Chris to anyone who has sufficient pain and needs some relief! I cannot wait to continue working with him.

–Jessica R., Bodybuilding Athlete

Since I walked in the door I was greeted by name, which is a small detail that I noticed right away. I went in with some back pain I had acquired a few days ago and I left feeling significantly better after my first visit. The visit started off with an evaluation that also brought my previous ankle injury to the surface (which I had been ignoring) he talked me through every movement and explained each movements purpose in ways I could understand. After the initial stretches Chris pointed out that my spine has a distinctive curve that was most likely the culprit to my pain. He taught me how to find my own neutral position to help me in the future. My first appointment was followed by some massage (this is the part that brought a tear or two but it was the “hurt so good” kind of pain as he called it) cupping and scraping. I can’t wait to put all that I learned into practice and I recommend anyone who needs a tune up or has some issue with pain to go check Chris out at sports performance!!!!

–Cristina A., CrossFit Athlete

Exceptional. I’ve tried chiropractor, regular massage all in Chula Vista area and while helpful none of the above understood the needs of an athlete. When your massage therapist or chiro don’t know what an overhead squat or muscleup are, it is difficult for them to understand the stimulus and wear and tear on your body. Doctor Chris immediately came off to me as understanding of ATHLETES and the pressures/stimulus their body is subject to. Because of this he was able to address my injury as well as clean up some of my movement patterns. I’ve hit multiple lifetime PR’s only 2 weeks outside of an injury that had me operating at 80% or less on all my strength work. The week following my appointment my pain subsided and I hit within 95%, the second week after I was PR’ing. I am a Crossfit athlete/coach and Olympic weightlifter. I recommend a friend who is an acrobat and he performed stellar work on her. The next day she was raving about how effective he was. Do it. You won’t regret it.

–Scott S., CrossFit Coach and Athlete

I went to see Dr. Chris for several trouble areas in my wrist and back from circus and hand balancing which were getting worse in the gym. Dr Chris not only adjusted the problem spots, but was able to see the kinetic motion and help to retrain my body to adjust to the activities. I would highly recommend this place to any athlete. You come to fix the pain and keep going to improve performance!

–Kate G., Acrobatic, Gymnastic and Aerial Athlete

I am a retired senior who is an active hiker and walker.  Earlier this year I injured my hip and visited the physical therapy department provided by my health care provider. After several months and no improvement, a family member referred me to Dr. Chris Garcia at Sports Performance Physical Therapy.  At my first appointment Chris, was able to assess my injury and begin deep tissue massage to relieve the pain.  Chris also designed a series of PT exercises designed to strengthen my injured hip. I practiced (and will continue to practice) these exercises each day between my weekly visits. After several months of working with Chris, the improvement to my hip is significant. Chris is the best physical therapist that I have ever worked with and I feel very fortunate to have been referred to him.

Mr. Garcia is one of the best people I have met in San Diego. it is a privilege to know him on a personal level as well as engaging in workouts along side him. Mr. Garcia has morals and values that far exceed his personal side and transfer into his professional work ethic. Mr. Garcia has no problem telling it how it is, he doesn’t dance around the subject of what might be wrong he cuts straight to the point. During my appointments with Mr. Garcia he is very personal and professional, he has no problem explaining exactly what he is doing and why he is doing it. He creates a positive atmosphere and is easily relatable. If there is any reason why you may have issues with your body or just for maintenance purposes he is a first rate PT and my first choice as a professional to contact. there are no words I can use to describe the level of knowledge and professionalism he exudes during an appointment and I have no doubts he has all the tools to fix any problem you may have. FIRST RATE PT! highly recommended to anyone with issues pertaining to their body function!

–William E., CrossFit Athlete

Chris has been amazing in guiding me through my recovery process after a knee injury. I’ve been to a few physical therapists over the years and he is by far the best. The most knowledgable, kind and supportive.

–Andrea K., CrossFit Athlete

I injured my back working out back 6 days ago, I was in bed for 3 of them , could not walk and was in extreme pain, My good friend thankfully was informed about Chris when telling her Cross fit Coach about my condition. I was told by my good friend that her coach gave her Chris’s business card and said ” I never ever do this, I don’t hand out peoples business cards but this guy FIXES people, he know is sh@t!” I am so thankful that I called him. It’s been 1 session and I already feel a huge relief. I was able to go to the Gym today, which was a huge deal for me. Chris, THANKS SO MUCH!! Look forward to our next session!!

–Laura C., Athlete and Weightlifter

Dr. Chris Garcia is the TRUTH! Can’t say enough about not only his talents as a physical therapist and strength coach… but just an all around a good guy. I tend to hurt myself a lot more than I would like, but because of his care and tips, I’ve been able to manage my injuries and still perform at a high level. I’ve been to a lot of healthcare practitioners in the past, and there are only a handful I would refer my own family to. Thanks so much for everything!

–Jason H., Recreational Athlete

My story starts back in November 2015… Woke up with lower back pain on Thanksgiving day, I was limping and uncomfortable. Every time  I would stand up it felt like nails were being dragged down my back thigh! I would have to wait a couple of minutes for the pain to pass! Fast forward two & a half weeks and I’m still in pain, limping… So i finally go see a doctor. The doctor says i have a strained muscle in my right thigh, prescribes me a muscle relaxer & ibuprofen and tells me not to work out at all because i will tear my muscle! Two more weeks pass, I go visit with my trainer and tell him that I’m not doing any better, meds are NOT helping at all! He recommended that I go see Dr. Chris Garcia at Sports Performance Physical Therapy. I made an appointment, explained to Dr. Chris what was going on, he had me do some moves and diagnosed me with having a pinched nerve in my lower back. We did some therapy on it after that and i walked out feeling SO much better than I had in weeks! I saw him for a few more sessions and I was able to go back to working out after that first session, modified workouts but I was still in there! Dr. Chris is amazing! Money very well spent, in my & my hubby’s opinion! His bedside manner is excellent and he truly cares about his patients! He always listened to and answered my all of my questions. Everyone there was always so nice and helpful! Thank you Dr. Chris for “un-breaking” me and helping me get back to my daily hussle!!

–Jannette H., CrossFit Athlete

I had heard the testimonials and seen friends in the fitness community benefit immensely from visiting Sports Performance, so I kept wanting to test it for myself. Unfortunately being the procrastinator I am, I kept putting it off. This week that streak was broken and I got to see first hand what all the hype was about. During a lift session I felt a sharp pain by my left scapula. It was one of the more painful muscle spasms I’ve ever had. First thing that came to mind was ” I better call Chris Garcia at Sports Performance!” Surely enough I did just that and to my surprise he was able to squeeze me in the very next day! This was perfect as I could barely move without feeling a sharp pain. At my appointment I explained all my symptoms and he ran a couple of mobility diagnostics. He immediately knew what the problem was and proceeded to run some pretty cool and relaxing techniques that alleviated the pain almost completely!  Not only did he fix the problem but gave me the proper tools to prevent future injury and strengthen my mobility with a few simple exercises. The next day the pain is 90% gone and getting better throughout the day! I am sold! Sports Performance will now become part of my regular fitness maintenance. Thanks Chris!

–Sam P., CrossFit Athlete

Dr. Chris Garcia is a knowledgeable, talented and kind physical therapist. Those traits gave me confidence that I was in good hands. His initial assessment diagnosed the cause of my knee pain, and since then he has incrementally given me exercises and cues to adjust my running form and improve strength, balance, and pain management. He not only thoughtfully explains what he is doing and why he is doing it, but he also checks to make sure his directions are understood. He also encourages questions and takes his time to answer them. Dr. Chris follows-up each visit with videos/photos that review the session, which makes it easier to continue the exercises at home. In just a few sessions, I have noticeably less knee pain, and I’m able to complete my running workout sessions. I had tried other physical therapists, but they were very cookie cutter, and I felt they didn’t listen to my goals. As a master’s athlete, I wasn’t so much concerned about getting out of a chair; I wanted to get back to competition on the track! Dr. Chris got that, and he is helping me to achieve my goal-pain free! Thank you, Dr. Chris!

–Pat K., Masters Track And Field Athlete

Chris Garcia saved my athletic and professional life! Seriously. I had been putting up with hip pain after a work injury. Work comp told me I was fine. Well, I wasn’t. I had injured my ankle, knee and hip in a pretty serious fall. I healed mostly, but couldn’t get rid of the pain. I was referred to Chris and we got down to business. He is highly knowledgeable in the hip & low back arena. He was intuitive in my complaints and was ready to help me get better. After 4 months of various exercises & working hard, I’m running 4-5 miles again!! I’m a firefighter and my new found well being has increased my confidence again. I know I can do my job and do it with strength. Thanks Chris! And the ladies at the front desk. Couldn’t have done this without you!!!

–Lisa K., Runner

5-Stars is NOT enough!!! Dr. Garcia did an exceptional job in his initial assessment/evaluation of my injury… Specifically, explaining the cause of my back discomfort. In just one visit I have already seen positive results. He is passionate about his work and as someone with a background in pre-physical therapy I can attest that Dr. Garcia’s hands on approach separates him from other therapist in town. He is truly an inspiration to folks like me that years ago aspired to being a PT one day. Rock on Chris!!!

–Gustavo H., Recreational Weightlifter and Runner

Anyone who has sports related injuries/pain definitely needs to see Chris Garcia! Chris was very fast to respond to my message on his Facebook page, I was able to get an appointment next day. He’s very knowledgable in sports related injuries and demonstrated lots of skills in manual therapy and modality treatment. I’ve been dealing with hip and shoulder pain for over 2 years now and before I saw Chris I had given up hope for full recovery. With just 1 session I already feel very optimistic about Chris’s treatment plan and I definitely feel I can get back to full strength soon! Thank you Chris!

–David R., CrossFit Athlete and Coach

Chris is the definition of a great clinician. Professional, personable, and humble. He’s not only great at what he does, he’s affordable too. Price, effectiveness, friendly… I don’t think you need to say any more, but I send my mom to him on occasion to help keep her dancing into her 70s. Nuff said.

–John W., Jiu Jitsu Athlete

Chris is fantastic. Contrary to the approach of many PTs prescribing a generic workout regiment and leaving you to your own (often faulty) devices, he is fully hands-on. He accomplishes a great deal within a visit. His guidance and expertise are indispensable for anyone looking to progress within their sport or simply correct their motor engrams so as to limit injury. I look forward to working with Chris much more in the future!

–Rex R., PowerLifting Athlete

I was doing a Southern California road trip, and sports performance physical therapy came highly recommended from another clinic I gone to in LA, so that I could continue my treatment. I am so happy I found this place! Chris worked on my shoulder and gave me some great exercises so I could continue on my own. I was surprised on how good my shoulder motion felt afterwards. I’m excited to get back to working out, which I thought would take MUCH longer. Thanks sports performance.

–Ryan K., CrossFit Athlete

I didn’t know what to expect with my first experience with physical therapy and boy was I blown away. Dr. Garcia was quick to respond to my inquiry on his website and I was able to get in the next day. I woke up with a sore back after weightlifting the day before and had trouble sitting and standing. He made me feel comfortable on first meeting, quickly started treatment and fixed my back pain on the first visit. I can’t thank you enough Chris!

–Ivana G., Runner

As an endurance athlete, I am very particular as to who I see for Physical Therapy, because a PT that works with Athletes is VERY different than your average PT your insurance recommends. I heard about Chris Garcia through word of mouth from a friend over at the Olympic Training Center, and he was very prompt to get back to me and set a time to connect. I cannot say enough great things about working with Chris @ Sports Performance Physical Therapy. The professionalism & friendliness from everyone there immediately set the tone for my visits moving forward, and I could not be more impressed. I came to Chris because I was experiencing some hip pain on my right side, and I was just about to begin my training for my third IRONMAN 70.3. In the sport of triathlon, your body goes through some physical conditions that you have to constantly be working on mechanics in order to sustain the 6+ hours of racing. I was hesitant at first because of my previous PT sessions were mediocore & didn’t see the results I needed. My first visit to see Chris was a very thorough consultation that allowed him to assess my running mechanics, which in turn ended up being the culprit for the pain. He did a lot of cupping (hurts so good!) and massage to get the blood flowing, and then started to record running segments where we could together look at the footage and talk about a rehab program. He also gave me at home exercises that were manageable & also was very prompt to send follow ups with videos and instructions for the at home program shortly after I left. This was huge because it kept it top of mind for me over the course of the next 10 weeks. Over the course of our visits and progression with the training program, I completely changed my running form & hip mobilization to allow me to run pain free, while strengthening my hips & glutes. This was huge for me seeing that I was able to race the IRONMAN 70.3 & complete it pain free. Not only did I race, but I am convinced that I was able to PR due to improved running form and overall strength. I will for sure be going back to see Chris for any and all sports related injuries/prevention, and have enjoyed not only getting to know him on a professional level, but he also makes me feel comfortable and I would call him a friend.

Jenna W., Triathlete

WOW. What can I say? I didn’t know who to trust, or who to go to after my shoulder was injured. I’m a CrossFitter and I was having a lot of discomfort and was unable to do some basic movements for over 6 months. I was referred to Chris and immediately knew that I was going to get the care and treatment that I needed. He always goes above and beyond with our sessions. I love that he explains exactly WHAT he is doing and WHY he is doing it. Then, he leaves me with an exact plan, pictures, videos and is always there to answer my questions. I have had amazing experiences every time he has treated me over the last 3 months and I’ll continue to refer people to him because this caring, sweet, genuine guy KNOWS his stuff better than anyone I’ve met in the SD area.

Crystal C., CrossFit Athlete and Coach

So I first want to start off with why I came to Chris Garcia at Sports Performance PT in the first place. I’m an Olympic Weightlifter hoping to compete at the national level very soon and I have been working with Chris for about 6 months with various issues. I came to Chris because I was having low back pain that radiated into my glute. It seemed unavoidable that after every training session I would get this pain lasting for a few days after. Chris knew immediately as I was describing it what to do. He informed me it was a tight psoas. I had no idea what that was but ok!!! He went to work adjusting me and released the muscle which was not pleasant  but much needed. After he released it he gave me a few techniques that would allow me to do it myself and some stretches to prevent it from getting that bad again. It’s been about 6 months now and that pain has vanished. Since then I have been back for numerous shoulder issues that have been resolved with intense tissue work and stretches. This biggest thing to take away from this is Chris is not some PT that wants to steal your money and have you coming back week after week for something that could be resolved in an hour and a little proactivity on your part. In his session he explains to you what is going on so you understand it more and gives you techniques to fix it on your own (he will even take cool pictures of you while you do it and send them to you with rep and set schemes for your homework). As an athlete this is big for me because I need to be able to train and take care of my body and Chris has expanded my knowledge and brought me to the next level. I am currently working with Chris on a more stubborn shoulder issue that’s going to take a bit more time and effort on my end but I have no doubt I’m in good hands. If you are in the SoCal area and need a top notch PT I highly recommend Dr Chris Garcia.

Vernon B., Olympic Weightlifter and CrossFit Coach

I was having some issues with my knee and a coworker recommended I see Dr. Chris Garcia. I called him and had no difficulty scheduling an appointment within a few days at a convenient time and location. Chris was kind, professional and incredibly knowledgable. He helped me to understand what was going on with my knee, did some massage/cupping on my knee and gave me exercises to help strengthen my weaknesses. A couple of days later my knee felt noticeable improved and I was able to workout without any pain or discomfort! I highly recommend seeing Dr. Garcia. He was awesome 🙂

Lisa L., CrossFit Athlete

After 18 years of active duty service, the day-to-day wear and tear started to take a heavy toll! My wife suggested years ago that I should seek therapy…outside of the military. The “treatment” the military gives you was mediocre at best. Twelve different sessions the military gave me…it was a complete joke. Six months ago my wife stumbled upon Chris with Sports Performance. After one session I knew we’d stumbled upon something great! THE best money I’ve spent in a long time! Not only did he show me what I was doing wrong, he erased years of pain I’ve dealt with (lower body). By the fourth session out of six, much of the pain was greatly reduced. If we continue to live in this area, I wouldn’t hesitate to keep seeking his service! Top notch! Chris professionalism was on point! I’m not the type to just brag about anyone, but he’s that dude! If you’re looking for a physical therapist, he should be your first and only person to try!

Greg W., Recreational Walker and Gym-Goer

Sports Performance Physical Therapy is at the tip of the spear when it comes to physical therapy. I contacted Dr. Chris Garcia about some shoulder problems I was having and he was able to schedule an appt for me very quickly. During my session, Dr. Garcia first just listened to all of my complaints and concerns about my shoulder. It was comforting to feel like he wasn’t trying to develop a diagnosis without hearing everything that was going on. He then proceeded to put his skills to work and treated my shoulder with a combination of joint manipulation, massage, and torture techniques (aka, cupping and scrapping). When the session was completed he gave me an estimated time for healing and emailed some strengthening exercises to be done at home with easy to follow illustrations. Dr. Chris Garcia separates himself from other PT’s with his genuine care and concern for his patients. His knowledge and experience is second to none and he explained everything he was doing so that the I could understand his procedure and the healing process. I strongly recommend him, you will not be disappointed. Thank you Chris for helping me and I know you will continue to lead the way in South Bay.

Pierce C., CrossFit Athlete and Coach

I came to Chris because I was in a car accident and suffered from really bad whiplash so bad that I wanted to craw in a closet and cry. After last night session I started to cry during dinner from the happiness of not having the pressure on my neck anymore. I left with pain relief and was given the tools in my belt from recovery. You could not ask for a better physical therapist! Thank God for him today I have very little pain and starting to feel like a human again. God bless him! If you need a Dr. look no other place but him!

Lisa B., Runner, Weightlifter and CrossFit Athlete

Chris gave same day appointment and in one session my son improved dramatically! We are looking forward to my sons next appointment to further his rehabilitation. Thank you Chris for speedy attention and looking forward to seeing my son back on the field with your help!

Rudy M., Proud Father

Just completed my first session with Chris and he didn’t disappoint.  His skill and in depth knowledge helped to not only address some long term (and persistent) issues, he helped me to identify some areas that I didn’t even realize I had issue with. Excellent new facility and located as close as can be if you are in the Otay area.  Great bed side manner and flexible scheduling.  You can’t miss at Sports Performance Physical Therapy!

Jet T., CrossFit Athlete

I drive 4 HOURS (2 hours both ways) every time I see Chris, and I see him on a monthly basis.  His service is worth the drive! I started seeing Chris at the beginning of May (2016).  I had recently attempted to get back into shape and several of my chronic injuries and even some new ones were starting to rear their ugly head.  The past 3 years of inactivity combined with long hours at work (60+ hour work week) had created a 28 year old male that felt and moved like an 80 year old senior.  The first assessment was an eye opener. Both my ankles were pronated at rest; there was right soleus muscle atrophy as compared to my left, limited mobility on my right ankle, and plantar fasciitis in my right foot. I had chronic knee and elbow pain.  I had recently developed left bicep tendonitis secondary to overzealous rowing workouts.  And, to top it all off, my lower back was constantly tense or locking up. In comes Chris and he starts to provide actual solutions to all these problems.  He helped me identify both the soft tissue and bony restriction in my right ankle.  I found that the source of my chronic knee pain lied in both fascial restrictions and lack of a proper warm up.  And, my lower back pain began to clear as I followed Chris’s recommended drills/exercises for both my ankles and knees. It’s now 5 months since I first started working with Chris.  The muscle atrophy in my right soleus is improving; my plantar fasciitis is nonexistent; the bicep tendonitis has resolved; I don’t experience back pain on a daily basis; and I can squat heavy pain-free for the first time in 5 years.  Now when I see Chris the goal is no longer to fix injuries, but instead we focus on maintenance work to keep me healthy and training. So, if you’re nursing any acute/chronic injuries, you want to improve your athletic ability, or you just want a general assessment of your muscle/joint health, call up Chris.  Your only regret will be that you didn’t call him sooner. P.S. If this review convinced you to make an appointment, please ask Chris for a demonstration of his Salsa dancing skills at your first appointment. #myPTsalsadances!

Abraham V., Weightlifter

Exceptional treatment. I’ve gone there for an enflamed SI joint, labrum issues and lower back stuff and Chris has always taken care of me. As an athlete, being injured is one of the most frustrating experiences. Chris will put your mind at ease and allow you to put your work ethic into rehab, providing you with exercises to aid in recovery to incorporate into your training. My number one choice by far!

Scott S., Weightlifter

Just finished my first session with Dr. Chris Garcia! Not only did he treat the injury I have already sustained but he is teaching me ways to avoid injuries in the future. He teaches as he treats, leaving me with both relief from the pain and optimism for a future full recovery. Dr. Chris was focused, and attentive and I trust that with his help I’ll be making a speedy recovery.

Pete C., Swimmer

I’m closing in on age 60 with some wear and tear on my body.  Amateur mountain and cyclocross bike rider/racer.  Broke my ankle (3 places) and dislocated right shoulder in a crash last year.  Chris Garcia started working with me as soon as Orthopedic M.D. gave clearance – Chris was very deliberate about this – October, 2015. Chris REALLY knows his stuff.  He set expectations properly by telling me recovery would take a year, maybe more, and he lead me through a very specific progression of stretching, mobility, strengthening, and later, conditioning exercises for ankle, leg, and shoulder. Chris also reworked my running mechanics as the surgery and new ankle hardware changed things. He has a very keen eye for body mechanics. Chris is an expert at making adjustments and demonstrating alternative activities to accomplish the desired goal based on what was happening with my body at the time – and my limitations (previous injuries and rotator cuff/labrum damage, fractured rib, torn hamstring, Achilles tightness during my recovery – bike riding has its risks). Chris is high energy, extremely positive and supportive, answers all questions, and will push you when the time comes. He clearly demonstrates everything he asks of you, and again, is expert at making adjustments. Thanks to Chris, I am endurance mountain biking again and raced cyclocross last weekend (see photos) – which is a very good test of high intensity riding and running over a sketchy course with obstacles.  Exactly one year later – just as Chris said it would be! I will continue to see Chris for help with my overall conditioning and when I have more specific needs to strengthen or increase flexibility, to overcome a limitation, or recover from a future injury.  If you are serious about recovering from surgery or an injury, or just want to get into better shape the right way, and are willing to work hard to achieve best results, Chris is your guy!

Dennis R., Masters Cyclocross and Mountain Biking

I would highly recommend Chris. After dealing with foot and back pain for some time, and after being incorrectly diagnosed by multiple providers, I believe I finally have correct diagnoses for my hip and foot. My only regret is that it took me so long to go out of network to find Chris. I’m looking forward to continuing to work with him to be pain and injury free.

Kelly C., Half Marathon Runner

After one session, I feel better already! Chris is personable, knowledgeable and truly cares about your fitness goals. Looking forward to my continued treatment!

Nicole Q., Powerlifter

I had a really bad shoulder injury. I thought I could take care of it myself. That didn’t work. Went to go see Dr. Chris Garcia. He immediately relieved me of my pain. Nice office and very understanding. I will always only go see Chris to heal me. My only regret is, hesitating, and not seeing him sooner. This place is for anybody, not just sports athletes. I like how there are no machines to do the work. Its all hands on, so Chris can feel the imperfections that need to get corrected. VERY VERY Highly recommended!

Anthony O., Construction Worker & Weightlifter

Sports Performance is the best! Chris was able to help me recover 100% after breaking my elbow and wrist in a motorcycle accident. I’m very specific about my recovery as a life long athlete and he catered to that and more. I don’t think I would be fully recovered and lifting weights 4 months out of my injury. Sports Performance made it happen. World class!

Alberto S., Motorcycle Fanatic & Gym Go-er

I just had my initial consultation with Dr. Chris Garcia for some shoulder pain I’ve been experiencing for a couple of years and he is definitely someone I would recommend! He took his time and listened to my issues and explained what the problem was in terms I can understand.  He worked on my shoulder for quite some time and even fit in some time to help me with recent back pain I’ve been experiencing (which already feels a lot better)!  I’ve sought out a lot of different treatments for my shoulder and nothing has worked. Dr. Garcia’s techniques are different and definitely promising. He gave me some stretches to do at home and I liked that he took pictures of me actually doing the stretches (since I would probably forget). I also liked the fact that he understood crossfit workouts and knew exactly what movements I should shy away from to prevent further injury/pain, instead of just limiting all movements. Dr. Garcia also seems to care genuinely about his clients and definitely wants everyone pain free!   If you’re in some pain and want some relief, go see him. He will not disappoint!

Cherry J., Weightlifter & Gym Go-er

Meeting Dr. Garcia was my lucky break. After a fall left me with a fractured patella, my college student, athletic son urged me to see his physical therapist.  I wasn’t sure that a PT that treats dedicated athletes would be a good match for a 64 year old woman, but I was wrong. I arrived at my first appointment frustrated with the slow recovery and persistent swelling in my leg.  After a careful, unrushed exam Dr. Garcia explained several new ways to reduce swelling and improve circulation.  He walked me through exercises to speed up my knees recovery and strengthen my leg even before the brace comes off.  Though I went to him just for injury therapy luckily, he will also help me develop a plan to manage my arthritis, help avoid future injuries, and maintain an active high quality life as I get older. That is priceless.

Mary C., Recreational Walker, Hiker and Gardener

Highly recommend! Came in with a very inflamed shoulder and bicep. Chris did a full thorough assessment and knew exactly how to treat and rehab the area. Very knowledgable and informative.

Annette T., Gym Go-er, Mother and CrossFit Athlete

There is not other place to be if you are serious about your health and want the best results! The entire staff at Sports Performance Physical Therapy is extremely friendly, knowledgeable and has an invested interest in your health. They are simply the best!

Jason H., Taekwondo Athlete

Sports performance physical therapy and Dr. Chris are amazing. I explained the issues I was having with a previous injury, he’s attentive and listened to my concerns. I am grateful he has helped me with my injury and feeling better everyday. Highly recommended!

Ida O., Gym Go-er

Chris is an amazing physical therapist. He is truly a master at his craft. With my job I’m always in some sort of pain. He has helped get back to work pain free and that is so important. He is honest and truly cares about his patients. I feel blessed to have him on my side helping me recover and stay well! Being a hairstylist is taxing on the body and he knows exactly what to do to help get you fixed up! His new location is rad beyond belief and his commitment to his patients and job is something you rarely find in today’s world. If you are seeing Chris you can rest assured you are getting the very best of the best in PT care!

Mandy L., Hair Stylist, Mother & Gym Go-er

I had my sons get an assessment from Dr. Chris. He’s very patient and pays close attention to any concerns that we have. He explains things very well so that we understand where we are and what we need to do to get to where we need to be. Scheduling was very easy, calling, emails and even texts! Dr. Chris is very friendly and professional. The facility looks very high end but the atmosphere is very down to earth.

Jan A., Proud Mother, Fitness Enthusiast, & Gym Go-er

I am an elite triathlete from Belgium and I went to see Chris prior to a race because I was having so recurring knee issues. I am a physical therapist myself and I was able to able to keep the symptoms in check most of the time but I was missing something. After a very thorough exam, Chris pointed out some impairments that most physical therapist including myself would have missed. I had to race the next morning so Chris did some targeted but light work on me. Anyway, I won the race the next day and did it without a twinge of discomfort. Chris definitely helped me win this one and I cannot recommend his services enough. You don’t come across such quality of care very often and he is one of the nicest person I had the pleasure to meet. I will definitely consider flying to San Diego again to see him if I get injured again.

Pierre M., Physical Therapist & Professional Triathlete

Amazing and informative PT session! Chris really shows a passion for his craft and strives to initiate a path to a healthier life for his clients. His friendly, yet straightforward approach helped fuel my own desire to accomplish my goals.

Victor R., Recreational Basketball Player & Student

Today was my first visit to Sports Performance Physical Therapy and I am extremely happy with the care I received. I had three issues and was pleasantly surprised when I was asked to rate them by importance so that Chris could work on the most pressing issues. Even better than that, all three issues were able to be addressed during this single visit. I was given take home exercises to make sure that I get the most from my visit and to help heal my old injuries. I was able to workout that same day and was ecstatic to find that I could now do dumbbell thrusters, a previously daunting movement, with no shoulder problems. I will definitely return and I highly recommend Chris at Sports Performance Physical Therapy for anyone looking to heal old injuries or anyone trying to stay tuned up for peak performance.

Katrina D., Weightlifter & Gym-Goer

This was my first time experiencing an inner leg muscle strain. Since it happened when I was just sitting down on lutus position, I did not know it was a muscle strain. When I schedule my appointment to see Chris, I was on the 4th week ,I was on crutches, seen two different Doctors. I read all the reviews about Chris-Sport Performance Physical Therapy and I made my decision. I was desperate to heal. I came to my appointment with Chris with crutches, leg strained and a new pain: lower back pain (due to crutches), I was also starting to have cramps for the first time in my leg from not moving it at all. Chris advised me to stop using the crutches which where making worse for me. Chris got started with my lower back and the pain was reduced tremendously. Then we got started with my leg and he was very professional and efficient. I was scare of the leg movements that he kept on telling to relax. Gave me some exercises to do at home 3 times a day. The first day was tough. Today is my 4th day and my leg feels so much better that I am so grateful with Chris. “Trust your leg” he said, and now I do. I have not felt the leg pain, my leg feels stronger now. The lower back pain is not as intense. I already have a second appointment with Chris. I recommend him 100%.

Mayra H., Yoga Enthusiast & Hiker

After one visit, I was able to run without pain for the first time in seven years! Scheduling a PT appointment with Chris was one of my best decisions. I’m looking forward to the process of healing my other injuries and feel confident that this is the best place I could have come to for help.

Carrie M., Stay-At-Home Mom & Gym Goer

I started seeing Dr. Garcia about a year ago, the first went to see him I had just injured my wrist trying to improve my Clean and Jerk. He did some cupping and soft tissue work and was able to reduced the swelling within one session. Then he tapped up my wrist and gave me some exercises and stretches to do for rehab and improve my wrist mobility. The second time I went to see him was because my calves were super tight and would cramp up whenever I would try to do any long distance running. He looked at my running mechanics and did some small tweaks to it, he said I was a heal striker. He then did cupping  and scraping( idk of that the correct term) on my calves that hurt like crazy but automatically after I noticed I had better ankle mobility and my calves didn’t feel like they were always contracted like before. I would definitely recommend this place. Physical therapy can be painful at times but Dr. Garcia will carry a conversation with you the whole time trying to take your mind off the pain.

I never write reviews, but my experience with Chris has been phenomenal. Whether you’re an athlete or not, if you have any injuries then Chris is the man to see.  He really cares about his clients and wants to see you improve.  If you place your trust in him, you will not be disappointed. He has brought me back from an injury that I was failing to treat myself.  I was too stubborn to see anyone at first, but after starting to see Chris, I continue to improve every day.  For those who are uncertain about seeing him because he does not take insurance, do yourself a favor and see Chris anyways. He is no ordinary physical therapist.  He will get you results, and after working with him, you will never want to see any other physical therapist besides Chris in your life!

Eddie O., Student & Gym Goer

Chris is a magician! Highly recommend! Don’t wait, just go! You’ll be happy you did!!!

Ruben R., Gym Goer

Chris is simply amazing! He pairs his understanding of the body with an understanding of your goals, abilities, and limitations. Allowing him to not only treat the symptoms, but improve your entire quality of life. He’s an athlete himself, with an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. Whatever it is, go see him, I promise you won’t regret it!

Joe Q., Weightlifter and CrossFit Coach

I can’t say enough about Chris and SP. He did my initial assessment and gave me exercises to mitigate my weakness. I am a customer for life!

Rory L., Weightlifter

12 weeks post foot surgery, I can barely walk out of my orthopedic boot. I was still relying on my heel and walking on regular shoe was a challenge. That’s when I decided to see Chris at Sports Performance PT! …and 4 sessions later, I was back to my normal routine – able to be on my feet all day at work, do Crossfit, and run at least 3miles without stopping. With Chris’s remarkable knowledge and expertise, I’m now able to do the things I love with no pain at all. Every session with him was an amazing experience – I would always walk out of there feeling great and much stronger. My only regret is I should have seen him sooner.

Frida O., Mom, Nurse, Weightlifter

I have been dealing with a lower back injury now for 4 months & have seen others but my experience with Chris on my first visit was amazing, he provided me with knowledge & already is helping me get back in the gym!

Victoria B., Stay-At-Home Mom, Weightlifter

Sports Performance is amazing and so knowledgeable. I’m glad I came here, it has helped me so much on my way back to recovery and running. I can’t say enough good things about this place. This is the only place I would recommend.

Estrella G., Stay-At-Home Mom, Runner

Went for my first session today and absolutely loved it. I met both Chris and Steph. Both were extremely friendly and professional. Chris explained exactly what he was doing, why he was doing it and what the expected results would be. Such an amazing experience. I can’t wait for the “full pressure treatment”.

Brett T., Weightlifter

Mr. Garcia has helped me stay healthy through out my fitness journey in Crossfit. I have come to him broken many times thinking it is all over for me and then he gets in there like a trained technician getting me back up and running like a well oiled machine. He has never once told me to stop training. I would not see anyone else or recommend anyone else for physical therapy. Chris Garcia and his staff are the bomb!!! Thank you!

John W., Weightlifter

Chris does, in a few sessions, what other physical therapy resources take 10 or more (or can’t even accomplish). There’s a reason that top athletes, Olympians, and those who are serious about fitness trust him. I trust him to the point that I’ve sent my 78-year old mother to him, my sister, and recommend him to anyone who needs to get better, stay better, or move better. He takes the time to really understand your concerns, gets right to the solution, and provides you instruction on how to continue to improve at home.

We are truly satisfied with the service our son received from Sports Performance. We noticed an immediate difference during our son’s football game. We will be lifelong clients! Thank you Sports Performance!

Andrea R., Proud Mom

We felt so taken care of! My son who is 8 is complaining of knee pain and is in the middle of a baseball tournament. They were very knowledgeable. Even analyzed a video I had of his pitching. I am confident in the routine they gave us and were generous with educating both of us. I’d highly recommend them!!!

Leyna B., Proud Mom

Went in today and had my first session with Chris. I am very impressed with the treatment I received. Chris explained so much to me and broke it down so I could comprehend it. We started a plan to repair my right shoulder and some other issues. I have been trying to do as much as I can on my own, online research, YouTube etc. with minimal success. I’m extremely excited to finally get some high quality treatment and guidance. Thanks Sports Performance!

Victor F., Gym Go-er

Excellent. This business really caters to people who are active gym goers or athletes. I got a slight muscle strain in my lower back at the gym. So I practiced smart self care & decided it’s probably time I also get a massage. Got the deep tissue massage & the masseuse really worked them out. I knew I had knots in my back, but the massuese also discovered knots in my glutes. I had no idea I was tight there, but it makes sense because I’ve been doing a lot of heavy lifting with squats & other leg work lately. Deep tissue massages aren’t for the faint of heart, but I’m learning that it’s an essential part of being fit because tight muscles & knots reduce performance & can lead to injury. I’m going back for a 90 minute deep tissue massage at the end of the month. Chris,  the owner,  is a physical therapist. And all the people who work there originally came from the Olympic training center. So they understand the kind of stress athletes put on their bodies. And everyone who works there is really friendly & wants to help you get yourself back to 100% so you can exercise at your full potential again. There should be just as many of these sport performance oriented places as there are spa places! I’d take a deep tissue massage over a Swedish massage any day.

Laurie Z., Gym Go-er

I have seen Dr. Chris twice, for shoulder and knee issues. I was seen quickly and he spent ample time listening to me to develop a course of action for treatment. Both times I found the treatment to be effective and found relief from the pain. He also gave me exercises to do at home to ensure the healing process continues. My issues continue to improve and Dr. Chris encourages me to stay in touch to ensure my healing progresses. Dr. Chris is very personable, engaging and easy to work with and provides me with feedback and encouragement.
