Hip Hinging 101: Decrease Low Back Pain & Improve Performance

April 17, 2016 Posted by Dr. Christopher Garcia, PT, DPT, SCS, CSCS, USAW Fitness & Performance Training, Hip, Back & Core, Injury Prevention, Warm Up & Mobility

Does your low back hurt after deadlifts? Do you have difficulty maintaining good form with the movement? Excessive rounding or flexing of the low back can cause increased stress and pain. Hinging from your hip, instead of your low back, can help reduce the excessive stress.

On this special collaboration with HealthFit Performance and Wellness in beautiful Hawaii, we provide three corrections to improve your performance. HealthFit is a leader in the sports medicine industry and we have the pleasure of bringing you the latest and greatest in fitness. We hope you perform better. On behalf of both our teams, mahalo!

-Dr. Chris Garcia, PT, DPT, SCS, CSCS, USAW & Dr. Jason Han, PT, DPT, SCS, CSCS, TPI

MRI Results Aren’t Always What You Think! Do You Really Need One?

Sep 12, 2025

Are you considering an MRI for your injury but unsure if it’s necessary? While MRIs provide a detailed look at bones, ligaments, and muscles, they don’t always dictate the next steps in your treatment. Many people are surprised to learn that MRI results often show normal degenerative changes that don’t always correlate with pain. Before getting an MRI, ask yourself: Will the results change my course of care? If you’re already in physical therapy and prefer to avoid surgery, an MRI may only serve as reassurance rather than altering your treatment plan.
